My Top 3 Adroit Nutrition Blog Posts

I’ve covered a lot of nutrition-based articles since starting the Adroit blog. Everything from calculating protein intake to reminders and tips. Let’s rewind and take a look at my top three.

Water: The Body’s Lifeline

I enjoyed writing this article as I dove beneath the surface with explanation.

Our bodies need water. Plain and simple. Considering the body is ⅔ water, every function relies on it.

Drinking enough water – half of your body weight in ounces – means the body and brain can:

  • Move food through the digestive tract;

  • Operate the immune system;

  • Remove waste;

  • Focus;

  • Regulate mood and energy;

  • And so much more

Don’t forget about salt, minerals and electrolytes. Plain water is helpful, but not ideal. Salt and electrolyte ensure cell walls open so water can actually enter leading to proper hydration.

This is crucial since dehydration is the number one stressor on the body.

Dehydration, both bodily and cellular can lead to:

  • Fatigue;

  • Poor digestive health;

  • Headaches;

  • Hypertension;

  • Kidney issues;

  • Chronic pain;

  • And more.

Mind Gut Connection

This might be my favorite topic ever. What we eat and what enters our gut directly influences our brain. Prioritizing nutrient-dense, whole foods can do wonders for your overall health and wellbeing.

The brain receives signals from the gut through the vagus nerve. The nonhuman cells in our gut feed on what we consume and in turn, send certain signals to the brain/ These signals tell the brain how much chemicals to produce.

Fun facts to remember are:

  • Our microbiome is referred to as our “second brain”

  • 90% of serotonin is produced in our gut

  • 50% of dopamine is produced in our gut

If you’re always eating sugary, ultra-processed foods, those microbes will be fed and primarily sending signals to the brain. You’ll ultimately continue craving those foods. This will lead to brain fog, sluggish energy and complications.

Eating lots of protein as well as prebiotic- and probiotic-rich foods is ideal.

Food is Medicine

Food can heal. With good decisions and consistency, the body can take nutrients from whole foods. This means optimal living, increased gym performance and, better physical and mental health.

A well-rounded diet containing protein, fats and fiber should be a priority.

One can battle obesity; improve chronic inflammation; balance blood sugar and hormones; and foster good gut health through such a diet. Doing so will provide the body with endless benefits. One’s quality of life would change too.

Some benefits of reducing and eliminating such struggles include:

  • Mental clarity

  • Type 2 diabetes remission

  • Proper amounts of energy

  • Decreased depression, anxiety and ADHD

  • Lessened thyroid issues
